Black Henna Warning

As a henna artist I have travelled and worked extensively around the world (following the sunshine!!!)   My first experience of ‘Black Henna’ was in Gran Canaria...During the winter months I had got my traders license and decided to work there the season… I met other henna artists that had what they called the ’new colour in henna’ I felt really uneducated and uncertain...there was a bad vibe working on the street, so I got a job in the large JUMBO centre, Gran Canaria, for a reputable tattooists (or so I thought!!!) I began and brought my own natural henna, I felt comfortable...The boss came and paid a visit the next night, complimented me on my designs from the night before and asked if he could ’have a word’ out the back..??I was shown a cupboard and asked  to in future mix my henna using their ingredients… natural henna and black house paint!!!!!!!! In horror, my initial reaction was WHY???? The reply was “it looks better in black than that brown stuff...and anyway if there is any problems it’ll happen when they get back home, and then who will they come back to lady???”  “Certainly not me” I replied as I walked out the door….. Since that moment I have educated myself and others and campaigned against BLACK HENNA. I have met hundreds of black henna victims some with pigment lost in their skin to deep scars and quite often children/teenagers with kidneys out.  I have travelled and documented street artists around Europe and UK and have often tried to ask them if they are aware of what they are doing...most don't care...many threaten me to leave them alone...  I have taken the time to create these pages as a useful point of information and as an ongoing battle to get Black Henna banned from being used in the United Kingdom.  If you know of anyone who has had a ‘Black Henna’ experience please e-mail me and join me in my quest!!! I cant do it alone…… gutsyginger@hotmail.com
